British teddy bears

British bears are almost as old as those from Germany and US. In 1908, J.K. Farnell's first teddy bear came out. Teddy bear making is a thriving industry in the UK and has even penetrated world market in recent years. The first teddy collector was actor Peter Bull, an avowed arctophile.

Article Abstract:
The first teddy bears may be traced in Germany's Steif Company design in 1902 or in the Ideal Toy Corporation's in America, which also existed somewhere in those years. The teddy bears, which was named after Pres Roosevelt, had since became many's favorite.

The extremely high prices which teddy bears get at auctions indicate the growing interest in them as collectibles. The most expensive was 'Teddy Girl,' which was auctioned for $176,000, followed by Steiff's 'Happy,' which was bought for $86,000.
