Liberated by the hallway
Article Abstract:
A couple designed an addition to their existing home and a hallway connecting the two parts. The hallway also serves a number of utility functions with storage cabinets and service doors. Design of the hallway and space utilization are described.

Built on inspiration
Article Abstract:
A hillside house with little maintenance and a lot of privacy is the winner of the 1992 Southern Home Award. The house, inspired by bridges spanning the James River, is built over rather than on the landscape.

An award-winning addition to a 1920's house is described. The addition creates a more spacious playroom, an enlarged breakfast room and is still compatible with the character of the original house.
