Making the entrance stand out

Donovan and Linda Hamm sought assistance from landscape architect Catherine Mahan to remodel the entrance to their new home in Baltimore, MD. The design changed the door, windows and awnings. Shrubbery and a pleasing walkway leading to the front door and the rear deck made for a woodsy effect.

Beauty on a budget

Eleanor Griffin has proven that remodeling does not need to cost much. She used her ideas and some advice from experts to renovate her front yard, including add on a terrace, eliminate a drainage problem and plant attractive shrubbery in her front yard for a low cost.

Planted screens, thick and green

A plant screen has many advantages over a wooden fence or stone wall in providing privacy. A plant screen is more pleasant to look at, provides more height, and can trap blowing dust. Guidelines for growing screening plants are offered.
