Secret garden of color
Article Abstract:
A Baltimore garden, designed by Paul Fowler, was full of spiky flowers of scarlet sage and yellow plume cockscombs contrasted nicely with the mounding pink and white New Guinea Hybrid impatiens, the plate size flowers of pink perennial hibiscus, and the gaudy leaves of coleus. Paul discussed the formula of its gardening specifying that he wanted his garden to be kept secret.

An overview is presented of the development of the sunken garden of Towson, Maryland residents, Irene and Bill Mansfield from a sunken lot littered with bottles and car parts. The plot of land features a spring-fed stream which enabled the Mansfields to develop a garden full of variety and color.

The pool and garden designed by Jan Kirsh Alspach and Clint Wadsworth for a family in St. Michaels, MD, highlights the scenic landscape and the nearby creek. The pool is situated at the front yard but well hidden from public eyes. A pool house that looks like a cottage completes the ensemble.
