The antique detective: collectible American patriotic symbols
Article Abstract:
There has been a revived interest in artifacts from the past reflecting America's patriot symbols and newly created objects since the September 11 terrorism attacks. The interest is reflected in Americana auctions and in antique shops specializing in 18th, 19th and early 20th century objects which includes pins, banners, flag jewelry and peace dove pins.

The antique detective: lithophanes coming to light at auction
Article Abstract:
Many people have discarded the gems, lithophanes because they never held them up to the light. The James Julia spring lamp and glass auction exhibited a lamp with a five-panel lithophane shade that fetched $977.50 and a lithophane panel holder that sold for $146.

Folk art portraits created during the Philadelphia 1876 Centennial were usually unsigned works by traveling, itinerant folk artists. Portraits of ancestors were considered status symbols.
