Ads with flair
Article Abstract:
Elements of a successful advertising campaign to attract job applicants include thought-provoking headlines and appealing graphics. Additionally, successful recruitment advertisements give applicants an easy way to respond to employment queries. Winners of the 1989 Vantage Awards, an annual advertisement competition sponsored by Personnel Journal, are presented. Some companies cited for excellence include: Old Country Buffet which attracted high-caliber managers with a words-only advertisement; Erol's Video which had recruitment advertisements focused on how much fun their company is to work for; and Lehrer McGovern Bovis Inc which used the recognizable graphic image of the Statue of Liberty in recruitment advertisements.

Apple ads target intellect
Article Abstract:
Apple Computer has achieved recognition as a firm with successful recruitment advertising methods, and three of their successful advertising campaigns are profiled to illustrate their innovative techniques. Apple's recruitment advertising campaigns are successful because they use a consistent style that parallels their product advertising style, incorporate innovative 'hooks' to attract applicants, and use advertisement as a medium for promoting change. Currently, Apple has received positive results by developing campaigns which stress overall corporate opportunities and benefits instead of simply focusing on specific job openings.
