Atypical employment and "flexicurity"
Article Abstract:
Germany is witnessing an increasing number of people taking up predominantly part-time, fixed-term and temporary contracts. The effect of these forms of atypical employment with the job security offered and the flexibility desired is analyzed. The number of part-time workers has grown significantly. While 86% of them are women, fixed-term workers' numbers have grown only slightly. The analysis concludes that atypical employment relationships provide flexibility to employers and security to employees, who have reduced access to training as well as reduced social security cover.
