Article Abstract:
An insight into straightforward cases of direct sex discrimination is provided. Cases applying s.63A of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975, in which tribunals are now making findings of unlawful discrimination where previously they were unwilling to find any, despite unsatisfactory explanations are discussed.

In Davies v Marchmont Medical Practice, an Edinburgh employment tribunal upheld that a company that intentionally avoids recruiting a parent with childcare was unjustifiable indirect sex discrimination.
