Article Abstract:
The external marketplace for employee assistance programs (EAP) began developing in the mid- to late 1980s and was based on some of the counseling traditions of employers' welfare services mised with the core technologies of US programs. The downsizing of the early 1990s stopped interest in EAPs but in the latter part of the decade more employers have come to recognize that interest in their employees' mental health made good business sense. Bullying at work: a survey of 157 employees
Article Abstract:
A 1999 survey of 157 British employers indicated that the issue of workplace bullying had been move up the management agency agenda within the past two years. The increase in bullying cases appears to be linked with greater employer awareness of the problem of bullying at work, rather than an actual increase in the number in instances of bullying. Almost two-thirds of the employers surveyed had written policies covering the problem, often as part of their harassment policy.
