Successful HRIS implementation planning
Article Abstract:
Personnel professionals who want to use human resources information systems (HRIS) effectively will improve their chances for success by using a planning process that outlines goals and objectives. Factors to analyze during the planning process include: what resources and skills will be required; how much the system will cost; and what time frame will be needed for implementation. Five steps are recommended for creating a positive planning process, including: knowing the difference between a project plan and a work plan; creating a project plan that is driven by deliverables; building plans to fit projects; using automated project planning tools effectively; and making sure to recognize that a plan is just a guide.

The challenge of managing change
Article Abstract:
Statistics indicate that over 4,000 corporations were restructured in the 1980s, but an overview of the results from many restructured and acquired firms indicates that the companies have struggled to regroup and to be competitive. The reason for the often less than positive results is that organizational change is complex, a fact that is ignored by many executives. To manage change effectively, it is suggested that managers use a four-step approach involving assessment, communication, management, and training.
