Jobs must be marketed
Article Abstract:
The labor shortage problem is becoming more serious as the growth of the labor supply slows down and the basic skills of workers decline. Consequently, competition for new workers with the right skills is expected to intensify. Demand will be particularly strong for candidates who have reading, mathematics and other fundamental skills. Human resources professionals can demonstrate their value to their organizations in this labor market by being able to identify the best candidates, establish connections to good labor sources, make effective use of employees, hold on to employees and provide them with opportunities for advancement, and market their organizations as a great place to work. HR executives should consider recruitment as a highly developed art.

How recruitment efforts can elevate credibility
Article Abstract:
A good recruiting program is an effective way for the personnel department to build credibility within a corporation. Common complaints about hiring practices include: personnel departments are unresponsive; delays in the hiring process; and interviewing of candidates by other than appropriate managers. Techniques for alleviating these problems include: allowing line managers to review present resumes against existing openings; establishing time frames for recruiters to return calls from candidates and for managers to make a decision about hiring someone; and emphasizing face-to-face meetings between recruiters and line managers.
