Reliable assessments of organizations
Article Abstract:
Managers have used meetings, suggestion boxes, and standardized opinion surveys to get employee feedback. None of the methods provide complete or accurate information. A new approach is to have human resources personnel use a five-step organization assessment process: employee interviews; analyzing performance records; surveys of employee attitudes; analyzing survey results; and feedback. The assessment process can: alert managers to specific problems; show managers how effective new programs or policies are; direct improvement efforts; substantiate or invalidate views and suspicions; identify underdeveloped resources; direct management action; reveal undermining problems; identify outcomes of executive policies; develop committed management; and identify and maintain business opportunities.

Relocation: how to successfully move an organization
Article Abstract:
Employee opinion surveys can be a useful part of facility relocation planning. One such survey is described in detail, along with its six objectives: to inform staff of plans, to express corporate desire to keep staff, to reinforce management commitment to a smooth move, to provide an opportunity for employees to express themselves, to create a participatory climate, and to allow the firm to base plans on the useful information obtained. Examples of subjects covered include: transportation, food services, physical surroundings, town environment, and work schedules.
