Equipping the workforce: Engineering insurance and inspection is often the hinge between regulations and business operations, especially regarding the safe use of equipment
Article Abstract:
The UK has been involved in the formulation of new types of industrial legislation for suppliers and users of work equipment, within the European Union (EU). Engineering insurance and inspection provides guidance on the requirements of the regulations and gives advice on their implementation. There has been a change in the approach of regulations, with a move towards an approach based on the consideration of management of risk. Among the new generation of regulations are LOLER which aims to ensure lifting equipment does not risk health and safety, and PUWER 98 which applies to new and existing equipment.
