HR adopts consultancy and business role at Courage

The human resources (HR) department at UK brewer Courage has adopted a business-oriented approach as part of a plan to retool the company's organizational structure. The HR approach has sought to devolve HR responsibility down-line to best serve the smaller business units created to reshape corporate culture. A smaller core HR function sets HR strategies while a number of staff became HR consultants serving the new units. HR has introduced a series of initiatives including employee development programs, benchmarking, flexible benefits, and a performance management system, and modified bargaining procedures.
