Debugging buildings
Article Abstract:
One of the most effective ways of preventing Legionnaires' Disease outbreaks is to service the cooling systems of buildings on a regular basis and to avoid using cooling temperatures of between 20 and 50 degrees centigrade. Surprisingly, the highly infectious and deadly organism Legionella pneumophila does not cause any harm if it is swallowed but is particularly hazardous when inhaled in fine water sprays droplets. Health and safety staff are advised to use properly trained water systems service professionals to minimize risk of infection.
