How to support new-style expatriates: USA
Article Abstract:
The Wyatt Co reports that there is a trend among US multinational firms to reduce their expatriate employees. The availability of local skills, cost considerations and international mobility of executives are the reasons for this trend. Despite this development, however, sending key managers overseas is still necessary in some cases. Globalization and competition have also prompted big international firms to create a pool of managers experienced in international operations. Wyatt proposes some strategies that will utilize expatriate executives better and make optimum use of international transfers.

Executive compensation in US subsidiaries - how do non-US multinationals make decisions?
Article Abstract:
Foreign investors are at a dilemma as to how their chief executives should be paid. A survey of eight industrialized countries show a diversity in compensation practices, with the US providing the highest total remuneration level, leverage and variety of incentives, while Japan, Hong Kong and Germany are the lowest in the pay continuum. Non-US multinationals have a choice of adopting either the US system, their own country's or a special approach based on their company's need and the executive's performance and eligibility.
