An employee incentive program can introduce an element of enterprise and excitement into the lives of employees and their families, and encourage good management practices that include target analysis, employee communication, and training. The primary types of employee incentive programs include travel, merchandise, and vouchers. The steps in introducing an employee incentive program include establishing program objectives, setting realistic targets for employees, and clearly setting out rules. Travel consultants with destination management companies are in the best position to put together an inventive travel package. The cost for travel incentives vary depending on destinations and travel time. The effectiveness of incentives vary depending on the employee. Whenever possible, a choice of programs should be offered.

Matching people to jobs: an expert system approach
Article Abstract:
British Shipbuilders Ltd. implemented an expert system to identify the demands of its management jobs and the abilities of its existing workers. The system then helped the personnel department to match the ideal candidate for each job. The knowledge base of the expert system consisted of the job dimensions and skill levels needed for each position, and performance evaluations for each worker. The design and the implementation of the expert system is described.

Matching the Incentive to the Performer
Article Abstract:
New incentive schemes are said to materialize every three to five years. The author reviews various incentive programs in three major areas: job shop, clerical and administrative, and management and sales. The greatest changes are taking place in the latter with incentive pay being less significant and various base-pay improvements and non-cash incentives being used. The least activity or change in pay structures is happening in the white-collar area.
