International assignment policies: the starting-point for expatriate cost management
Article Abstract:
A growing number of companies are reorganizing their policies on expatriate assignments to reduce costs. The process begins with the evaluation of existing international assignment policies by taking stock of formal policy documents, assignment letters and employee handbooks. The actual implementation of these policies are then determined followed by the benchmarking of processes against traditional and innovative procedures.

Implementing a new expatriate policy after a cross-border merger
Article Abstract:
The merger of AstraZeneca's agri-business and that of Novartis to form Syngenta raises some interesting broader issues about cross-border mergers, particularly with regard to the expatriate management function. It is emphasized that the key elements of a new expatriate policy should be set up at the date of the official merger.
