In October 1990, Ravenswood Aluminum Co. locked out 1700 employees when negotiations with the union regarding employee benefits disintegrated. The first in a two part series, this article discusses the company's occupational safety standards, employees' collection of unemployment due to the lockout, and the treatment of the replacement workers.
