M&S closures renew redundancies debate
Article Abstract:
Marks and Spencer PLC decided to cloe its outlets in mainland Europe and this led to the 17,000 staff in its 18 stores in France to sue for its failure to comply with statutory information and cosultation requirements of workers. The court ruling against management is being used against the French food group Danone which is restructuring its biscuits division, and has led to to bringing the matter for adoption on the European level by the European Trade Union Confederation.

Restructuring at Danone encounters opposition

Danone, the French food group, announced plans to restructure at the end of March 2001. Approximately 1,780 jobs will be lost over the next three years due to the restructuring effort.
