Medical and dental plan trends: Brazil
Article Abstract:
A survey conducted among 244 companies in Brazil, concerning their medical and dental assistance plans indicated trends, reasons for implementation, problems and strategies. Medical assistance is very popular, with 98% of companies surveyed providing the service. They allocate about 6% of their payroll to health care. Most of them have links with pharmacies on discounted medicines. Practically all of them cited the high cost of plan implementation as a major problem.

An analysis of the Brazilian health care system is presented. The economic problems facing the Brazilian government, the organisation of private sector health care and the increasing cost pressures on employers are examined.
