One in three employees unimpressed by how organizations communicate business goals
Article Abstract:
A UK survey indicates businesses are unable to articulate goals clearly, according to 1/3 of the employees surveyed. While 80% of top management believe their message is getting through, many lower-level employees view the situation more negatively; many also rated management low in the areas of giving proper performance feedback and setting targets. Human resource directors should be more adequately represented on boards, especially if flexibility or related employee behaviors are sought by management. Team meetings and annual reports and presentations are the most common forms of communication employer initiatives.

People issues ignored by manufacturers adopting new ways of working
Article Abstract:
The team-based approaches adopted by many UK companies in the 1990s have placed too much emphasis on business goals at the expense of employees' job satisfaction, according to a 1996 survey. Many employees at the 325 companies surveyed expressed dissatisfaction with the increased emphasis on externally-focused business issues such as customer needs. While management believes team-based working is resulting in improved performance, employees believe personnel issues are getting overlooked in the changing workplace.
