Payout elections of participants in a public pension
Article Abstract:
Retiring workers of the Oregon Public Employment Retirement System (PERS) were used as a study population for the analysis of decisions being made by retiring workers concerning their pension plan and alternative sources of income for surviving spouses. The study revealed that participants were almost evenly divided among the options of lifetime income protection to the spouse, temporary refund guarantee and no formal provision for the spouse. The study also indicated that health was the primary variable affecting the retiree's choice of pension payouts.

ERISA fiduciary issues in pension fund proxy voting
Article Abstract:
Proxy voting has further complicated the issues resulting from the umprecedented standard placed on fudiciaries under ERISA. The issues become more complex due to the necessity of implementing the standards since they require decisions to be made exclusively for the benefit of plan participants and not corporate managers. However, despite its complexity, the ERISA legislation has long-term benefits for the economy. It has given workers' retirement benefits exceptional protection and it has also provided public companies with another capital source.

EC pension plan investment: existing differences and opportunities after 1992
Article Abstract:
The current situation in the EC is giving more leverage investors of pension plan assets through the creation of a Pan-European investment market and a Pan-European pension plan. Although it is possible to immediately implement a Pan-European investment fund available to member states, a cross-border Pan-European pension plan would take much longer with more obstacles to resolve. The various tax policies within the EC as well as the cultural differences among member states make the plan's implementation unlikely within the foreseeable future.
