Address the cause - not the symptoms - of behavior problems
Article Abstract:
The principles of behavioral change can be utilized to help managers overcome work style, management, social, or personality flaws that may limit their career growth. These defects may include being abrasive, insensitive, autocratic, unable to abide by rules, over-aggressive, inconsistent, conflict avoidance, procrastination, perfectionism, and lack of social ease or finesse. Behavioral modification strategies include customizing the training to the individual, relating the training to behavior change objectives, communicating feedback on the need to change and consequences of not changing, integrating training with on-the-job feedback, and preparing work environment and staff for change.

Meaning is shaped by audience and situation
Article Abstract:
The speed of electronic communication and keyboard input often limit time for review of messages. Managers must consider several issues, including chance for unauthorized third-party access, the need for clarity on second or third readings, tailoring the message to the reader's education and experience, assuring that the message matches the situation, and making certain that the sender can live with the message. Brief examples of problems associated with each of these issues are described.
