Implementation of statutory sick pay in Great Britain has given rise to close examination of regulations by both employees and employers. Court cases demonstrate that custom in the particular trade, locality or workplace is considered when regulations do not cover a particular example. When overpayments of sick pay are made, employers have little chance of recovering the payments.
