Article Abstract:
Nelson Mandela's Reconstruction and Development Program (RDP) is a comprehensive reform plan which links the eradication of social ills caused by apartheid to the attainment of South Africa's political and economic goals. The key areas of employee benefits provision that will be affected by the RDP includes compulsory pension and provident funds for all private sector workers, inclusion of member trustees in the boards of pension and provident funds, recognition of the right of all workers to participate in collective bargaining, elimination of all forms of discrimination in the provision of pensions and provident funds and transparency in accounting for pension and benefit funds.

Article Abstract:
The developments concerning employee benefits under the European Community will have a significant impact on Belgium. Chief among these are the 'post-Barber' benefit plan design and opening up of new benefit financing opportunities. The Barber judgment regarding discrimination in social security has affected benefit plans with regard to retirement age, sex and manner of payment of pensions. Plan financing has also positively affected employee benefits since insured pension contracts and segregated pension funds are likely to have better value. Taxation, however, could be a problem.

The German Pensionskasse on its way to Europe: the new insurance law
Article Abstract:
The Pensionskasse, which has 106 billion deutsche marks of accumulated pensions in 1993, is the second largest occupational pension financing scheme in Germany after book reserves. About 1.5 million German workers are entitled to occupational pensions under the Pensionskasse, making it the second largest in terms of number of employees entitled to pensions. The Pensionskasse has been treated as an insurance company under the Insurance Supervision Act of 1901. The effects on the Pensionskasse of Germany's new insurance law implementing EC insurance directives are presented.
