Work stress and health outcomes: the impact of personal orientations among CEOs in smaller businesses
Article Abstract:
Some 235 members of the Smaller Business Ass'n of New England were surveyed to study the role mastery, self-confidence, religious beliefs, economic expectations, and optimistic outlook play in reducing job stress and illness. A causal model was used to explain the relationships among these factors. Structural equation modelling with LISREL shows that mastery and religious convictions decrease job stress, anxiety, depression and illness. Self-confidence decreases anxiety. The impact of an optimistic outlook on perceived work stress decreases, anxiety, depression and illness.
