The HRIS as an agent of change
Article Abstract:
Human resources information systems (HRIS) can be agents of change by helping change organizational behavior and focusing attention on changes during the development and implementation of strategies. HRISs can also serve as catalysts, provide solutions, help processes, and link resources. Human resources professionals who wish to manage information successfully must know how to implement change. One firm has met this challenge by assessing its existing HRIS system and future needs and designing a new information system. The firm needed to redesign its system to achieve management's goals, and its employee information system (EIS) became an agent of change. The use of an EIS and Employee Master File as agents of change is the first step in the process of improving corporate efficiency and effectiveness.

HRIS quality depends on teamwork
Article Abstract:
Human resources professionals managing the implementation of human resources information systems can avoid falling behind schedule by focusing on the process of the implementation rather than solely on objectives. Project team members should include a project leader with good management skills, software technicians, and managers who understand the functional requirements of the systems. In-process quality control steps include additional sign-on guidelines for element specifications designated important in advance, preliminary or partial user testing at various phases of the process, and third-party reviews of systems specifications. Any quality control measures being implemented will require a change in the attitudes of management and those employees responsible for specifications development.
