Leveraging HRM to enrich competitive intelligence
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the relationship between HR management (HRM) and the acquisition and application of competitive intelligence (CI). The investigation revealed that the barriers to employees' ability to acquire, analyze and distribute strategic information can be overcome through HR solutions. For instance, the awareness barrier can be eradicated through HR strategy, recruitment, selection and orientation while the attention barrier can be removed through training and development. The motivational communication barriers can be dealt with through performance appraisal, compensation and benefits, and career planning while the structural communication barrier can be solved through HR information systems and HR communication. These findings should convince HR people to incorporate CI-oriented strategic intent in their functions to allow the greater flow of information to more employees and better decisionmaking.
