The development of the Indonesian labour movement
Article Abstract:
The economies of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam are expected to grow rapidly by the millenium. These countries have considerable state-intervention in their labour markets. The Indonesian labour movement has two strands, one of which is officially supported and another which is independent and only semi-legitimate called the All Indonesian Workers' Union (SPSI). Its main objective is to improve workers' pay and workers often insist the SPSI units are set up. The SPSI has been relatively successful in resisting restrictions imposed by the government.

British trade unions and social partnership: rhetoric, reality and strategy
Article Abstract:
Social partnership is a term currently in vogue in British industrial relations and it implies that unions and employers will work together in an atmosphere of trust and bring business ethics and stakeholding theory into industrial relations. This relationship gives unions a central role in how the workplace is managed and involves working with employers rather than against them. Social partnership gives unions a chance to reclaim some of the power and status they enjoyed in the 1970s while accepting that they must adapt to the new political climate.

It's a small world: managing human resources in small business
Article Abstract:
A survey undertaken in Mar 1993 indicated that, contrary to widely-held beliefs, small business managers frequently use new management techniques. Further detailed case study research indicated that the small business sector cannot simply be dismissed as using outdated management techniques. In many cases, a change of ownership prompts the introduction of new management practices.
