Belgium tackles its public deficit problems

The large government debt of Belgium prompted its policymakers to take measures that have received a mixed reception from its business sector. For increasing revenue, the government suspended the adjustment of tax bands starting 1993, standardized taxation of pensions and retirement plans, increased social security contributions and limited professional car expense tax deductions. These tax burdens affect employees the most and has possible serious financial implications for employers.
