The new insurance tariff in Belgium
Article Abstract:
Belgium's new insurance tariff has been proposed to come down from 4.75% to 3.75%. Three basic components were taken into consideration to arrive at this new rate, namely, the technical interest rate, the mortality tables and the administration expenses. Belgian maximum technical interest rates that are used by insurers are fixed and determined by Royal Decree. Market forces compel insurers to adopt these rates. The new tariff is not expected to have significant effects on defined contribution plans. However, cost changes caused by the tariff will be shouldered by the employer in defined benefit plans.
