Unemployed job-seekers: an underrated talent?
Article Abstract:
Unemployed job-seekers are generally perceived by employers as less desirable than employed applicants. Unemployed are perceived as nervous, anxious, defensive, guilty, aggressive, and depressed. Bring these attitudes to job interviews considerably lessens the applicants' chances of success, particularly with those managers who are unfamiliar with the job market. Employers worry about the reasons why someone is unemployed and suspect the worst, failing to consider the technological and economic upheaval around them. Many of the unemployed have been laid off for just such reasons as technological redundancy or corporate reorganization. The unemployed are frequently highly skilled individuals who are available immediately and should not be overlooked.

SCOEG acts to prevent 'free-for-all.' (Standing Conference of Employers of Graduates in Great Britain)
Article Abstract:
In Great Britain, the Standing Conference of Employers of Graduates has drawn up recruiting guidelines to prevent unreasonable demands on graduating students. With competition high among prospective employers, students have been pressured into taking too much time away from studies and making decisions too early. The guidelines include holding second interviews on weekends or on campus (to minimize the students' time away from studies) and allowing students time to meet with other employers before making decisions.
