Lists and stories as organizational communication
Article Abstract:
The two communication types of lists and stories are examined as to how they structure organizations. The examination posits lists and stories as central ingredients of organizational communication and suggests that their ratio, rate and order of occurrence are worth probing into. Lists are considered as formal structures while stories are interactions, which imply that their interplay and change over time informs structuration theory.

Syntactic and pragmatic codes in communication
Article Abstract:
Pragmatic and syntactic codes are proposed for explaining the manner in which language users converge on meaning, for establishing stability and predictability in interaction and for developing individual semantic scripts. The pragmatic code is connected to the oral style which emphasizes context and shared background. The syntactic code does not place importance on context and is more complex and differentiated.
