ABA ducks the abortion debate; referendum is postponed
Article Abstract:
The ABA at its 1993 midyear meeting postponed a reconsideration of the pro-abortion rights policy adopted in 1992. Although this policy spawned 3,850 protest resignations, ABA officials expect to reach mid-1993 with more members than before. Some want the issue reconsidered in a referendum of the organization's entire 370,000-strong membership. George E. Bushnell Jr, 1994-95 president-elect, feels the issue will never be put to rest, either within the ABA or in the US as a whole.
