High-tech courts will ease crunch in 21st century; because filings could quadruple, speed is a must
Article Abstract:
In the federal courts, civil cases filed are expected to quadruple in the two decades of the 21st century, to 800,000 cases annually, and both federal and state courts are experimenting with technology to manage their rising caseload. Working on the RRs; simple property case sparks 25 class actions against RRs, telecoms
Article Abstract:
Class action suits alleging a violation of property rights have been filed by Midwestern land owners against railroads for using land to which they held only easements, and against large telecommunications companies for compensation for the fiber-optic cables those firms buried beside the railroad lines. Plaintiffs' lawyers propose that local landowners form a "corridor entity," a cooperative controlling the land jointly, including setting and collecting user fees.
