Article Abstract:
Legislative lawyers, a new specialty covering those who work with lobbyists and others in developing legislation, is discussed. Legislative counsel offices still do most of the drafting of legislation, but have an increasing need for outsourcing due to its complexity.

Accidental allies; while fighting for return of stolen assets, lawyers for Holocaust victims spar over leadership and fees

Lawyers in charge of the three separate class actions helping Holocaust survivors recover unclaimed deposits their families deposited in Swiss bansk during World War II have many disputes with each other about how to conduct the cases. The actions were not consolidated for trial because amendments of the complaints would delay any damages paid to the elderly victims. Even pretrial coordination was difficult with the clashing chemistry of the attorneys.

Cash counsel; supreme courts in two states require lawyers to pay higher license fees to help fund legal aid
Article Abstract:
Supreme courts in Minnesota and Ohio have ruled that increases in lawyer license fees should finance legal services to the poor, and other states might do likewise, since there have been cutbacks of more than $117 bil over two years in the US Legal Services Corp. Minnesota was first, with a Feb 7, 1997 ruling increasing annual registration fees for lawyers in amounts that would raise about $900,000 for legal aid to the poor.
