Milberg Weiss' $50M mistake; the inside story of why jurors didn't buy the firm's testimony
Article Abstract:
Lexecon Inc was named as one of the many defendants in Milberg Weiss Bershad Hynes and Lerach's Lincoln Savings and Loan Association suit, but naming Daniel R Fischel, a principal in the corporation, as a defendant as well turned out to be an expensive mistake for the law firm, as the jury returned a $45 mil verdict against the firm on charges of abuse of the legal system. The law firm agreed to pay $50 mil to settle the case rather than allow the jury to consider punitive damages.
