Are E-mails enough for DOJ case? (Department of Justice's antitrust case against Microsoft)
Article Abstract:
The Microsoft antitrust trial seems to be going well for the Department of Justice, although the latter's charges of illegal monopolization have a heavy burden of proof. There is evidence of Microsoft's purported intent to monopolize the Windows 95 client market and its warnings to Netscape to stay away, but intent is not evidence for this type of antitrust charge. On another front, Microsoft signed off on exclusionary contracts designed to crush Netscape, such as its agreement with America Online to promote Internet Explorer exclusively.

For the defense, Microsoft's Neukom; after government rests, general counsel responds
Article Abstract:
William H Neukom, Microsoft's general counsel, states that the government has failed to prove its case that Microsoft has a monopoly in the computer system operating market and in fact has to contend with relentless competition in the computer industry. Microsoft filed a motion to dismiss when the government finished presenting its case, stating that the government presented no evidence that Microsoft foreclosed the ability of competing vendors to sell their Web-browsing software.
