Article Abstract:
A sampling of bulletin board services (BBS) of potential value to legal professionals is presented. The American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) BBS maintains an extensive library of bankruptcy-related information, and it may be searched by topic or keyword. Business Gold, sponsored by the National Technology and Transfer Center, has all the information on new technologies from federal government laboratories' R&D efforts. The FAA Headquarters BBS, jointly supported by the Office of Public Affairs, the FAA Office of Aviation Policy, and other official fiefdoms, is a huge storehouse of aviation information, including data on airports worldwide. Also discussed is the Legal Ease BBS, which contains data on everyday legal issues. The phone numbers and logon instructions for these are provided.

Computer bulletin boards and CD-ROMs are available to legal professionals. One such bulletin board is the Ohio Professional Electronic Network (OPEN), which is a fee-based service that enables attorneys to access Franklin County Court Docket records for both civil and criminal cases. It costs $12 per month and extra costs are charged for searching and ordering state documents and records. Another useful online service available to lawyers is the Industrial Defense Library, which is accessible via Westlaw. It costs $40 per month and provides attorneys with information about toxic tort litigation. A CD-ROM that may be useful is the $195 USSC+ product from InfoSynthesis; it holds United States Supreme Court decisions from 1971 to present.

Tracking bills, lobbyists with Legi-Tech BBS
Article Abstract:
A number of BBSs, online services and CD-ROM products of use to legal professionals is presented. The Legi-Tech service provides current status and history of all bills in the legislatures of New York, Washington and California. Information is available at (916) 447-1886. The juris.com BBS, devised by a group of insurance defense and compensation attorneys, focuses on workers' compensation issues. The BBS is at (805) 495-9911. Another BBS, from Alldata Corp, provides auto-repair data and technical documents. The Alldata-Link BBS is at (916) 684-5225. CD-ROM offerings include Klienrock's Tax Library and real-estate directories from DataQuick. MCI Communications, meanwhile, is offering a 'calling circle' plan for frequent BBS users.
