Grassroots growth; inner-city transactional pro bono helps lawyers and communities
Article Abstract:
Reasons for the growth in transactional pro bono in various inner cities are discussed. These include the shift toward private sector entrepreneurlialism as a way of helping the poor and the high percentage of lawyers more comfortable in business- than in litigation-oriented pro bono.

Representing the plaintiff in Boy Scouts of America v. Dale as a recent example of the low public regard for lawyers and law firms representing unpopular client is discussed. Representing an unpopular client can also hurt law firm efforts at branding.
