Betting on cyberspace; when it comes to the future of Internet gambling, all wagers are off
Article Abstract:
Internet gambling has grown exponentially but has experienced a number of legal challenges in the US, the domicile of most online gamblers. Congress has been considering legislation outlawing Internet gambling and making it a federal crime to place bets online, and a civil suit in California against the gambling industry would forbid credit card companies from authorizing the use of their cards for online gambling. Although the Internet Gambling Prohibition Act died in the House in 1998 after passing the Senate, it is expected to be reintroduced this year.
