Promoting fair play; new ABA manual pinpoints ways to take bias out of lawyer evaluations
Article Abstract:
The ABA Commission on Women in the Profession has published a manual offering law firms and other employers ways to eliminate bias through gender-neutral employment evaluations. The guide also contains sample forms and other evaluation methods from firms who have been successful in promoting women to senior positions. Attitudes toward women lawyers have improved, but well-meaning employers can still use stereotypes. Looking mainly at context and results is a method for evaluating all attorneys in a gender-neutral way.

Share the wealth; ABA panel proposes fee-splitting with other professions
Article Abstract:
The ABA Commission on Multidisciplinary Practice issued a report recommending that lawyers be allowed to work in the same firms with various other professionals, even if the firm's primary purpose is not legal work, if non-lawyers supervise lawyers and if these lawyers do not own a controlling interest. Sole practitioners and small firm lawyers would probably see the most immediate benefit from these proposals.
