Bulletproof states? Sovereign immunity cases could bar recourse for plaintiffs
Article Abstract:
States are requesting the US Supreme Court clarify when states may be sued in state courts in three pending cases, Alden v. Maine, College Savings Bank v. Florida Prepaid Postsecondary Education Expense Board, and Kimel v. Florida Board of Regents. Uncertainty was generated by the Supreme Court's ruling in Seminole Tribe v. Florida. In that case, the court expanded the states' 11th Amendment immunity to be sued in federal court.

Spoiled cargo; court joins bandwagon in ruling against spoliation-of-evidence cause of action over missing trucker's log
Article Abstract:
The profusion of state court suits ruling against intentional spoliation of evidence as a separate cause of action is discussed. The Arkansas Supreme Court was the most recent one to rule against it, ruling that remedies such as sanctions or disciplinary proceedings would also be adequate.

Article Abstract:
The Supreme Court ruling of City of Erie v. Pap's A.M. as the origin of an attempt to tighten adult entertainment laws in almost half the states is discussed. Three states actually passed such laws in 2000, the same year as the ruling.
