Child care; Congress seeks stronger interstate child support system
Article Abstract:
The US Commission on Interstate Child Support has released a report with suggestions for enhanced enforcement. The report was required by the Family Support Act of 1988 and marked the end of at least two years of research and public hearings. The Commission found that some $5 billion in annual child support obligations are never paid, with children whose parents reside in different states suffering the most. S. 689 and H.R. 1600 have been introduced to address this problem and would give the state where the child lives jurisdiction over the matter.

Taking a wrong turn? ABA raises concerns about car insurance legislation
Article Abstract:
S 625 and HR 2021 would pre-empt state automobile insurance laws, creating a federal system which would allow drivers to choose between tort maintenance coverage, similar to traditional tort coverage, and personal protection insurance, similar to no-fault insurance, the goal being to reduce automobile insurance rates and limit lawsuits. The ABA has testified that this would intrude on accident victims' rights to seek damages and states' jurisdiction over insurance laws.
