Some of the electronic devices and ase management software making a mark on law practice are discussed. These include document scanners, scanning, indexing and OCR software, fax, word processing and database software, and E-mail software with an Internet connection.The list has expanded greatly from those who were satisfied with a computer and printer.

The advantages of computer networks are discussed, including saving users downloading time and allowing them to share resources, thus saving the cost of buying multiple components. Peer-to-peer and client-server networks are the two major types, and choice depends on the number of projected users and the cost effectiveness of a more centralized system.
