Article Abstract:
Issues are discussed regarding the ABA Section of Family Law holding off support of the proposed model act on artificial reproductive technology. The proposed act calls for informed consent on the risks and alternatives to such technologies and says parentage should be determined by the intent of the parties.

Conceiving solutions; model act to address issues raised by fertilization methods
Article Abstract:
The ABA Section of Family Law's Committee on the Laws of Assisted Reproductive Technologies and Genetics is drafting a model law on innovations in reproductive technology. The act hopes to establish legal rights and protections for both patients and providers of reproductive technology. The committee will consider such issues as ownership and privacy rights of frozen embryos and sperm, patients' informed consent rights about the success rates of various fertilization procedures, and what procedures should get health insurance coverage.

Article Abstract:
A draft act addressing the legal issues surrounding reproductive technology is discussed. The ABA Family Law Section's Committee on Reproductive and Genetic Technology details the rights and responsibilities of patients, medical providers and third parties in its draft act, calling also for informed consent on the technology's risks and alternatives.
