Article Abstract:
Issues are discussed regarding alleged racial profiling by police and possible laws to eradicate the practice.Statistics in various states suggest more frequent stops of minorities for traffic infractions.Why the Supreme Court ruling in Whren v. United states presents an obstacle to defendants challenging traffic stops is also discussed.

Critical conditions; goal to reduce medical errors is fraught with difficulties
Article Abstract:
A joint AMA-ABA conference on ways to reduce medical errors is discussed, as well as an Institute of Medicine report that up to 98,000 Americans die from such errors each year. Physicians know that once reported, such errors are more easily discoverable and might trigger personal injury claims.

Serving up civil rights
Article Abstract:
Attempts by the Rehnquist Supreme Court to curtail the effect of the commerce clause in prosecuting civil rights violations are discussed, with the focus on U.S. v. Lopez and Solid Waste Agency v. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The certiorari request in Gibbs v. Babbitt, invoking the aggregation doctrine, is also discussed.
