Data safety and general software
Article Abstract:
Occupational safety officers should be familiar with methods of both entering and protecting safety data on their computers. Data entry requires proper use of file names, back-ups, and security measures. Staff should be properly trained and able to type in data themselves. Maintenance and viruses should also be considered. Spreadsheet and word processing software is useful for this type of data. Safety records, safety publications' indexing, and department communications are typical uses of these databases.

Asbestos, dusts and PPE
Article Abstract:
Software and computer-based training products can be used to aid safety managers in controlling asbestos or dusts or provide employees with information on personal protective equipment and asbestos-related health risks. Management software can be used to monitor asbestos and dust exposure levels, effectiveness of control measures, and asbestos usage in construction. UK laws governing asbestos removal and the use of protective equipment are also discussed.
