The US Supreme Court's ruling in Bond v. United States barring searches of soft luggage carried on buses and trains by squeezing the luggage The court ruled that passengers rightfully considered their carry-on luggage to be private and came as a surprise from a court usually permitting the police broad leeway.

Article Abstract:
A Supreme Court ruling in Ferguson v. City of Charleston that a drug testing program for pregnant patients did not meet Fourth Amendment search-and-seizure guarantees is discussed. The court's ruling that the jury have life imprisonment with no possibility of parole is an alternative in death penalty cases is also discussed.

Taking a page from history; Old English, colonial law revisited in pot scanning, warrantless arrest cases
Article Abstract:
Two Supreme Court rulings, Kyllo v. United States and Atwater v. City of Lago Vista, on the requirements for an unreasonable search and seizure are discussed. The first rejected as unconstitutional the scanning of a home with a thermal imager, here turning up home-based marijuana growing, while the second upheld arrest and jailing for a traffic violation.
